Since CARE began operating in Rwanda, we have consistently supported the Government of Rwanda in implementing health interventions to help Rwandans achieve better health outcomes. These efforts have evolved through various projects and programs implemented across different periods.
From early maternal health program implementation to caring for those affected by HIV/AIDS, CARE has worked toward enabling women and girls to make informed choices through comprehensive health education and advocacy for reproductive health rights. CARE Rwanda has also continued implementing projects and programs focused on hygiene and sanitation education, utilizing community mobilization approaches to encourage the population to adopt health-seeking behaviors and reduce disease transmission.
Furthermore, as an organization committed to advancing women’s and girls’ rights, CARE Rwanda prioritizes improving health outcomes, recognizing that when health systems are inadequate, women and girls suffer disproportionately compared to men. In CARE Rwanda’s 2021-2025 program strategy, we aim to reach 500,000 women and girls aged 14-59 with sufficient information to exercise their reproductive health rights.
We are implementing several projects within this program area. These projects are being implemented in 11 districts.
Farmer Field Business School (FFBS): This model provides farmers with practical, hands-on training in both agricultural techniques and business management, enabling them to transition from subsistence farming to profitable agribusinesses.
Climate Vulnerability Capacity Analysis (CVCA): Through this analytical tool, we assess communities’ vulnerabilities to climate change and their existing capacities to adapt. This informs the development of targeted, climate-resilient agricultural interventions.
Journey for Transformation (JfT): This approach focuses on fostering equal rights for women and girls and power balance within households, empowering both men and women to make joint decisions that contribute to household well-being and economic empowerment.
Community Scorecard (CSC): This participatory tool empowers program participants to voice their concerns and priorities, fostering collective action and collaboration with local leaders to find sustainable solutions to community-specific challenges.
