The Powered by Women in Rwanda program aims to improve equality for 161,047 women and girls in Rwanda. CARE, along with its implementing partners, will strengthen the ability of women, girls, and Civil Society Actors (CSAs) to address critical barriers to women’s economic justice, Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR), and Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) prevention.
The Need for the Program: Despite progress, evidence shows that rural women in Rwanda still lack economic opportunities, participation in decision-making, and access to SRHR and GBV services, particularly in the Eastern Province.
Implementing Partners: CARE works with four implementing partners:
- Afro Ark
- African Evangelistic Enterprise Rwanda (AEE)
- Pro-Femmes / Twese Hamwe (PFTH),
- Rwanda Men’s Resource Centre (RWAMREC),
Program Approach & Expected Results: The program focuses on strengthening grassroots solutions to address these challenges and close the disparity faced by women and girls, compared to men and boys. This includes:
- Establishing new and strengthening existing Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs).
- Community strengthening.
- Engaging men and boys to transform harmful social norms in public and private spaces to ensure equality gains are sustained at all levels.
The program aims to address the critical barriers women face in achieving economic justice, securing their SRHR, and preventing VAWG
