In 2012, CARE International worked in 84 countries around the world, supporting 997 poverty-fighting development and humanitarian aid projects to reach more than 83 million people. 68% of CARE´s projects in FY12 addressed women’s empowerment and gender equality, facilitating transformative change in gender roles and empowering women and girls. 26% of CARE’s projects in FY12 addressed sexual and gender-based violence. More than half of CARE’s projects in FY12 helped poor people claim their rights and advocate for policy change at local, national or regional levels. CARE Rwanda works closely together with various other country offices in the region, such as the East and Central Africa Regional Management Unit and other CARE members for learning, advocacy, donor liaison, etc.
